What is IUI?
IUI stands for Intrauterine Insemination which is also known as Artificial Insemination. This is an infertility treatment procedure in which doctors place the sperm which is processed in the laboratory into the uterus. The sperm that is placed in the female body is washed in the lab so that the seminal fluid is removed from the sperm and is concentrated thereafter. The sperm is placed in the uterine cavity in such a way that the chances of meeting if eggs and sperms are higher. The IUI procedure is performed when a woman is ovulating.
What is IVF?
IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization. The treatment is also known as Assisted Reproductive Technology or ART. The process helps in the conception of a baby or babies. In the procedure, the sperm and eggs are combined and fertilized in a lab. It is then inseminated into the female body after being monitored properly.
Difference between IVF and IUI
One of the main differences between IUI and IVF is the place where fertilization takes place. In the procedure of In Vitro Fertilization, the eggs and the sperm are combined outside the women's body in a lab and then processed into the uterus after the fertilization has taken place. On the other hand, in the procedure of Intrauterine Insemination, the process of fertilization takes place inside the woman's body since the sperm is put into the uterus through injection.
According to research, In Vitro Fertilization has more chances of being successful than Intrauterine Insemination. Although the price of the Intrauterine Insemination is less, the process does not really generate very successful cases. On the other hand, the treatment of In Vitro Fertilization is expensive but reliable and generates more successful operations.
